Peace and Politics

This two-part series empowers individuals and groups to respond peacefully and proactively to ideological and political differences that contribute to hostile rhetoric, intimidation, and threats.

From kitchen table disagreements to organized intimidation at the polls or board meetings, differences in ideological and political perspectives can fracture families and communities. This series will equip peacebuilders with knowledge and practical skills to diffuse even the most contentious circumstances.

The Peace and Politics workshop series will prepare you to:

  • Understand causes and effects of political polarization and the role of media, social networks, and confirmation bias

  • Recognize the impact of identity and belonging on political views and behavior

  • Improve relationships and dialogue with those who have differing views at home, work, and community spaces

  • Use de-escalation techniques in tense and angry conversations and situations

  • Identify shared values and goals across political divides

  • Use DBT skills to help others with emotional regulation and during political discussions

  • Use the latest critical thinking and media literacy skills to analyze news sources and discern misinformation

  • Learn and share ways to get involved in the political process including constructive activism in local, state and federal contexts.
